When I was 9 years old, playing on a building site, suddenly a sharp pain and found a length of Dowling stuck in my eye, in and out of Hospital for around three years, was not allowed to play out, read, no school, just a general trape 26 miles on a bus and more pain, while they tested. I vowed that nothing would keep me from doing things. Finally I was allowed to carry on with the band, joined the Cadets, got to Sergeant Major, captain of the football team, generally tried to do catch up on what I had missed. I passed to join a Military Band, but was asked to return all travel warrants because the MOD would not take reasonability of my “good” eye. When I was 20, I passed my Class one, at the first attempt to drive Artics, finished driving, started at the council and worked my way up to be a Manager in charge of 30 staff, then retired. That lot might sound as though I am boasting, but with no education as such, when you are told that you will not be able to do this or that, had to prove them wrong. Now why I do not play the games, looking at a small screen compresses the images, till some times I do not see what I am looking at, so I am slow in reacting and of course get shot, I will not play, when I do not get any fun out of the game, just so others can get a better kill rate at my expense. I have had laughs out of this, one time I got a growth in the socket and could not put my eye in, because of the pain, anyway had to go to Hospital to have the growth removed. It was my turn to go to the nurse who removed the pad on my socket, then asked me to cover my left eye and read the letters for a sight test, did that, then she asked my to cover my right eye, told her I could not see anything, was told I must be able to see something, everyone burst out laughing, me just stood there with an empty socket. Saw the doctor who said it had gone, I said could I use the sink to wash my hands and put my eye back in, I was asked if the staff could watch, because they had not seen one fitted before, and this was a eye hospital. Anyone else who as got over difficulties. JS38 ![]() | ||||
